My Vaping Experience
There seem to be dozens of brands out there and you should not give up. So many people have told me that they tried it before and did not like it. I have heard the response "I tried it and it doesn't work". However, there is no "it". There are many brands out there and there is a fit for everyone. Saying you didn't like "it" is like saying "I tried duck and didn't like it, therefore I am sure I won't like chicken". A guy I gave my card to on Fulton Street on Wednesday 2/29 showed me an e-cig he bought that he did not like (a brand I never heard of) and until he met me, he probably gave up on the idea. Don't give up! Don't be cynical! This stuff really works! I strongly believe in it which is why I am taking the time to update this website and give out the cards.
You should benefit from my experience and go straight for the best. It is a little bit of work and sometimes frustrating because of quality and maintenance issues, but tank systems offer the best combination of convenience, taste and duplication of the tobacco smoking experience. Some vapers prefer to "drip" which is much more labor intensive but supposedly a better experience. I have not used dripping so I cannot tell you yet if it is better, but I plan to try it. Even the best popular simple battery and pre-filled cartomizer experience does not come close to tank systems used with quality e-juices.
Don't rely on retail stores, drugstore chains, convenience stores or gas stations to experience vaping. The e-cig products you buy in those stores are not suitable, with the exception of Blu Cig (which I personally don't care for, see the e-cig products tab) available at Walgreens and they don't carry all of the kits and flavors. You need to go online and find the best product for you. I decided myself not to think at all about the money. Not everyone can do that, but definitely, if you can make the basic investment to "find your zone" it will be well worth it and save you a lot of cigarette money in the future.
COST: e-cigs will definitely cost you less than tobacco in the long run. Frankly, I am spending a lot more on this than I did on tobacco because I keep trying new things. However, once I have purchased and tested all I want to try, it will fall into an economical zone of just replacement cartridges and my estimate on that is between $100 and $150 per month. Even the most economical product (ProSmoke) cannot acheive the promised 2-pack equivalent per cartridge. They may continue working but the taste deteriorates and it is likely that you will get the equivalent of 10 cigarettes per cartridge (maybe 15 with ProSmoke). That is still way cheaper than tobacco in high tax states like New York. But this is not about cost, it is about saving your life, and that is priceless.
There is also a lot of controversy over the chemical substance used to create the vapor. There is PG or propylene glycol and VG which is vegetable glycerin. The companies that sell the VG promote it as healthier and the companies that sell the PG promote that as a better vaping experience. I have not tried the PG yet and I will let you know when I receive my order. See the Health Issues page and also see a detailed discussion at http://www.electroniccigaretteweekly.com/2010/10/pg-vs-vg-whats-right-for-you-.html.
Face it! None of these are real tobacco, but believe me, once you get used to the experience, you will hate the smell of tobacco smoke and the thought of smoking an analog will be repulsive. You will smell nice too, and that is a major benefit. Have you ever heard of "third hand smoke"? We all know what second hand smoke is and how it harms the people around us. Third hand smoke is also quite harmful. The smell that lingers in our clothing, on our hands and in our furniture, carpets and cars (if you are one of those few who still have the privilige to smoke indoors or in your car) is harmful to anyone who comes in contact with it, including ourselves.
Please go to the e-cig products tab to see what I have tried.
Tips:
Buy the best starter kits with all the bells and whistles.
Buy extra batteries and chargers so you will never run out and be tempted to smoke an "analog".
Buy different flavors to your liking.
Start with a nicotine level that is similar to what you smoke now.
After getting accustomed to the experience, purchase non-nicotine cartridges to use in between your need for a nicotine hit so you will satisfy your oral urges
without the nicotine and eventually wean yourself off nicotine.
If you can afford to, keep buying different brands until you find your zone, Make it a hobby and fun experience. Once you get used to it you will never go back.
Very important! You need backup of different barnds for variety to keep it interesting, and also you never want to run out of batteries or cartridges. Keep several different brands and flavors with you at all times.
Please read the e-cigs products page for some of my recommendations.
